You can save $9 on your PNE admission on Library Day, Aug. 21, if you bring your library card.

As Stephanie Vokey, co-ordinator of marketing and public relations at the Richmond Public Library says, “You get in for $6 instead of $15. If you bring a whole family with library cards, that saving really adds up.”

This is the third year our library is partnering with their regional counterparts to host the Library Zone tent at the PNE. It’s a one-day bonus to all the PNE offers.

“It’s part of our evolving approach where we’re trying to move more and more out into the community,” Vokey says. “We want to surprise people and show them how fun and interesting and engaging libraries can be.

Inside the Library Zone tent, everything will be free with PNE admission.

“There will be different kinds of digital tech to try out and play with first hand,” Vokey says. “We’ll have crafts as well as a number of familiar family games, perhaps some nostalgic games but with a fun new spin.”

And for frazzled adults and over-stimulated offspring, Vokey points out, “One of the best parts, is the tent will be a quiet space for people to escape a bit of the heat and the crowds. A place to take a little break from the hustle and bustle of the PNE and explore some of the books we’ll have available.”

Vokey herself will not be in the tent.

“My colleague Ariana (Galeano, Richmond Public Library’s head of community branch services), along with another couple of library staff members, will be there. They will be glad to see everyone and to work with other regional library staff so we can bring back new ideas to our library.”

Calling the Library Zone at the PNE on Aug. 21, a “win-win” for those who come check it out and for those librarians who are participating, Vokey speaks excitedly about the enrichment and renewed enthusiasm the staff return with when they get back from Library Day.

So, whether it’s at the Library Tent at the PNE, in one of our Richmond Public Library branches, or at an outreach project, Vokey says, “We want to surprise people and show them how fun and interesting and engaging libraries can be.”

“Come to the library. Get your card now. It’s free.”
