There’s a notable blue hue rising from Minoru’s Clement Track.

That’s the colour of the newly-installed rubber surface just applied at the popular facility. And the work was completed ahead of schedule.

The track re-opened earlier this week after being off limits for just about three weeks.

Blue is the primary colour of the track, with grey signifying the transition zones for the 4x100m section. The previous track colour was a burnt orange.

Clement Track honours local track and field pioneers Dr. Doug and Diane Clement who were former Canadian Olympians. The longtime Richmond couple started the Richmond Kajaks Track and Field Club, primary users of the track, in 1961.

The track is popular with countless local athletes, as well as residents who enjoy walking around it—particularly in the evening.

The track will also get optimum use as an activity site during the B.C. 55+ Games which Richmond is hosting in 2020.
