Richmond is mourning the tragic and unexpected passing of Andris Rozentals.

Described by friends as a hard worker who was devoted to family, Rozentals, who died May 28, was a caring father to three children. He was also dedicated to his community, a passionate coach in the Richmond Minor Football League.

A GoFundMe support fund has been organized by David Silva with a goal of raising $20,000 to assist the family. So far, just under $13,000 has been raised.

“We ask that your thoughts and prayers be with his family at this difficult time,” notes a post on the site. “Andy was a proud member of our football family. His dedication to our community was always evident on and off the field. We cherish the memories that Andris had with you all. Andris was always there to help whenever someone needed a hand, so we ask that we all come together in his honour. Andris will be forever missed on and off the field, but his love for his kids, the game and his community will forever be part of the Raiders’ culture.”

This Saturday, June 6, a memorial is being planned at the northwest corner of Steveston-London Park from noon to 2 p.m. Non-perishable items for his family may be dropped off at this time, as well as messages of condolence. All those attending are reminded to adhere to current health guidelines regarding physical distancing and be patient when arriving.
