Streamlined access to civic services

The City of Richmond has become famous for
their one stop shopping approach to dealing with citizens’ needs and inquiries.
Now, their can-do attitude is extending to the online world with their One Step
program.
Once you create your username and login, that’s
all you need to access all the City of Richmond services available online,
regardless of which department or service you access. From there, you can
customize your user profile so that you only have to enter information one
time.
This saves the time required to look up
things like your recreational membership number, legal description of your
address, or your tax roll number.
According to city spokesperson, Ted Townsend,
“Users can create a new customer profile through the MyRichmond portal by
clicking on the Sign Up button on
the top menu bar on the City website’s homepage at www.richmond.ca. Initially,
this profile will also provide enhanced access to the City’s online Report A
Problem customer feedback system, which allows users to pose questions, file
service requests or provide other feedback about civic services.”
There is also a smartphone app, RichmondBC,
that gives users access to city services including the option of a Digital
Recreation Membership Pass to negate the need for carrying, and sometimes
losing, a separate card.
So, whether applying for a building permit,
registering for a class, or looking for a specific service, Richmondites can
start each search with all their information already in hand.
“This new industry-leading profile service
will become the only profile that our customers will need to use in order to
engage with the City,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “It enables ease of use for
our customers by ensuring that they only have to remember one login and
password in order to identify themselves. Other applications will be integrated
to use this profile service in the coming year.
