Newly transformed Lang Park officially opens
One of the city’s first urban parks has been
revamped, addressing the needs of a growing and diverse community.
"Lang Park is well used, particularly by
those who live in the surrounding City Centre community where park space is limited." said Mayor Malcolm Brodie, who was joined by city councillors July 20 for the
park's official re-opening.
Originally built in the late 1990s, Lang Park
incurred significant wear and was no longer meeting the needs of the community.
The primary objective of the park development plan was to revitalize an
important public space in Richmond's dense city centre to make it more useable
by area residents, and provide children with an engaging place to play.
Key features of the newly-redeveloped park
include new concrete seating walls and paving, a children's play area including
a water play feature, site furnishings and lighting, upgraded utilities, public
art, reflexology path, new trees, shrubs and groundcover.
The total project cost was $920,506.
