Community Foundation awards $25,000 in scholarships
The Richmond Community Foundation is helping
to shape the future.
Supported by the nearly 50 forever funds it
manages, the Foundation this year awarded 35 scholarships worth $25,550 to
local high school students. The funds were set up by families, individuals,
businesses and community groups to support Richmond students in a range of
post-secondary fields.
"We have a diverse group of fund
holders," says Foundation chair Dave Frank. "Some support academic
pursuits, while others focus on the performing arts, or vocational training. As
such, our scholarships assist students with very different educational goals—from
becoming a teacher, to an electrician, to a professional musician."
Once a forever fund has been established,
anyone can help it grow by making a tax-deductible donation.
"The Foundation is a registered
charity," notes Frank. "In addition to providing scholarships, we
issue grants to Richmond non-profit organizations. Donations make a huge
difference, as they allow us to distribute more money back into the
community."
