Richmond North Centre MLA and BC Liberal Tourism Critic Teresa Wat says women in B.C. are still waiting for a concrete jobs plan from the NDP government, after experiencing a disproportionate amount of job losses over the past year.
Speaking in the Legislature on International Women’s Day, Wat noted the most recent Statistics Canada figures showed there are 26,900 fewer jobs for women in B.C. today compared to February 2020.
She also says the NDP’s Small and Medium-Sized Business Recovery Grant program still needs to be streamlined and made more accessible to the many women who own businesses in British Columbia, particularly in the tourism sector which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
