B.C. reports 605 new cases, four deaths

B.C. health authorities reported 605 new cases of COVID-19 today, 18 of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 195,186 cases.

Of the new cases, 82 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 245 in the Fraser Health region, 92 in the Island Health region, 119 in the Interior Health region, 67 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 5,172 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 374 of those people are hospitalized, 153 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 7,991,932 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,835,508 of those are second doses. 

This means that 89.4 per cent of adults and 88.9 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 83.4 per cent of adults and 82.7 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were four new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,033. Of those who died, one lived in the Island Health region and three in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported one new healthcare facility outbreak and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 13 long-term care facilities, three assisted or independent living facilities and three acute care facilities.

From Oct. 5 to 11, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.0 per cent of cases and from Sept. 28 to Oct. 11, they accounted for 73.4 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 2,571 (61.1 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 291 (6.9 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,344 (32.0 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Sept. 28 to Oct. 11)—Total 346

• Not vaccinated: 229 (66.2 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 25 (7.2 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 92 (26.6 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 5 to 11)

• Not vaccinated: 278.3

• Partially vaccinated: 80.5

• Fully vaccinated: 32.1

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Sept. 28 to Oct. 11)

• Not vaccinated: 36.7

• Partially vaccinated: 10.7

• Fully vaccinated: 2.1
