A selection of events in Richmond from July 19 to 21

Here are some local events to check out this weekend in Richmond.

Music at the Cannery

Who: Halifax Wharf Rats  (Celtic and East-coast Maritime music).

What: Live music performances happening every Friday night this summer.

When: Friday, July 19. Ticket sales start at 5:30 p.m. Show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site 

Price: $5 for youth (2-17) & $7 for adults


• Note: there is limited seating so it is advised to arrive early. 

McFadden/Poirier Home Burger & Beverage Fundraiser (Ride to Conquer Cancer)

Who: Amy Poirier, Debbie McFadden & Garth McFadden

What: Fundraiser where the aforementioned will ride 200 kilometres to conquer cancer. Attendees and their friends can enjoy a 50/50 toss, silent auction (you can donate as well), and a toonie toss. All proceeds will be going to the BC Cancer Foundation. 

When: Friday, July 19, 6 to 9 p.m. 

Where: 10380 Athabasca Dr. 

Price: $20 in advance or $25 at the door 



Summer Picnic at South Arm Community Centre 

Who: BC Cultural Diversity Association 

What: Potluck picnic

When: Sunday, July 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: South Arm Community Centre (9020 Garden City Rd.)

Price: $10 for members, $15 for non-members, or free if you bring a dish to share



Drop-in Lunch

Who: Richmond Caring Place 

What: Drop-in lunch for fathers & their children 

When: Saturday, July 20, 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Where: Richmond Family Place (8660 Ash St.)

Price: $3 drop-in fee



Midsummer Members Rooftop Mixer 

Who: Richmond Art Gallery Association 

What: Summer sunset celebration at the Richmond Cultural Centre (held in the rooftop garden). Cocktails, a silent auction, finger food, and a performance by Kendall Gender, winner of Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar 2017, and one drink ticket all included in the ticket price. All proceeds go to support RAGA education and outreach programs.

When: Friday, July 19, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Where: Richmond Art Gallery (7700 Minoru Gate)

Price: $10 for members, $20 for non-members



Garden Workshop 

Who: Richmond Food Security Society 

What: Workshop that teaches attendees how to successfully manage vegetables, weeds and insects with companion plants. Succession planting is also taught to help attendees grow more and for longer.

When: Saturday, July 20, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Terra Nova Red Barn (2631 Westminster Hwy.)

Price: $10 in advance, $11 the day of 



Sing & Play in the Park 

Who: Richmond Family Place

What: Gathering at the park for parents and children under the age of five where they can make friends, discuss various topics, and learn songs and rhymes.

When: Friday, July 19, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

Where: Steveston Community Park (4011 Moncton St.) or Richmond Public Library (Steveston branch) if raining 

Price: $2 drop-in fee or pay what you can 



Undertones of Green Exhibition 

Who: June Yun 

What: Exhibition of paintings by June Yun

When: Friday, July 19, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

Where: Lipont Gallery at Lipont Place (4211 No. 3 Rd.)

Price: Free



Janet & Jenny Book Signing 

Who: Janet Walmsley & Jenny Story 

What: Mother & daughter book signing. Janet Walmsley wrote The Autistic Author and Animator and Jenny Story wrote Dysnomia, both of which are best sellers. 

When: Saturday, July 20, Noon to 9 p.m. 

Where: Indigo at CF Richmond Centre

Price: Free



Ponies In The Park

Who: Richmond Nature Park 

What: Pony rides 

When: Saturday, July 20, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Where: Richmond Nature Park (11851 Westminster Hwy.)

Price: $10/ride (cash only)
