Sixteen more lives lost to COVID-19 in B.C.

Since Friday, 16 more British Columbians lost their lives due to COVID-19.

Deaths this month have remained high, with 92 recorded in the last two weeks. Since the pandemic began, there have been 2,273 virus-related deaths in the province. 

Of those who died over the weekend, two lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, one in the Fraser Health region, eight in the Island Health region, two in the Interior Health region and three in the Northern Health region.

Health officials also reported 1,270 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 213,020 cases.

Of the new cases, 121 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 417 in the Fraser Health region, 183 in the Island Health region, 275 in the Interior Health region, 274 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 3,837 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C.—the first time that number has dipped below 4,000 since August—and 376 of those people are hospitalized, 116 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,441,045 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,021,455 of those are second doses. 

This means that 91.1 per cent of adults and 90.7 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 87.3 per cent of adults and 86.8 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Health authorities reported two healthcare facility outbreaks over. Active outbreaks continue at 13 long-term care facilities, four assisted or independent living facilities and six acute care facilities.

From Nov. 5 to 11, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 60.2 per cent of cases.
From Oct. 29 to Nov. 11, they accounted for 66.9 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,890 (54.9 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 181 (5.3 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,374 (39.9 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Oct. 29 to Nov. 11)—Total 336

• Not vaccinated: 202 (60.1 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 23 (6.8 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 111 (33.0 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 5 to 11)

• Not vaccinated: 241.0

• Partially vaccinated: 69.9

• Fully vaccinated: 31.4

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 29 to Nov. 11)

• Not vaccinated: 40.8

• Partially vaccinated: 14.4

• Fully vaccinated: 2.4
