Kwantlen campuses evacuated after threat

An unsubstantiated threat has closed the Richmond campus of Kwantlen Polytechnic University as well as Kwantlen’s other four Lower Mainland campuses.
According to an alert sent to students, Surrey RCMP notified Kwantlen of the threat, which was specific for Wednesday.
“The threat is not specific to any one campus,” the notice said. “Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and with the highest regard for the safety and security of our students and employees, KPU is evacuating all buildings immediately and closing all five of its campuses for the remainder of the day.”
Classes at all campuses are cancelled for the rest of the day and Kwantlen’s buildings will remain closed while a security review is performed.
The alert was sent at 11:24 a.m. Wednesday.
