B.C. COVID-19 update: 405 new cases

B.C. health authorities reported 405 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 219,584 cases.

Of the new cases, 45 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 110 in the Fraser Health region, 96 in the Island Health region, 97 in the Interior Health region, 57 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 3,071 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 276 of those people are hospitalized, 95 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,761,618 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,079,299 of those are second doses and 469,176 are third doses. 

This means that 91.6 per cent of adults, 91.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older and 85.1 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 88.5 per cent of adults, 88 per cent of those aged 12 and older and 81.8 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses. Eleven per cent of adults and 10 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were six new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,351. Of those who died, one lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, three in the Fraser Health region and two in the Island Health region.

Health authorities reported one new health-care facility outbreak and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at two long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility and two acute care facilities.

From Nov. 25 to Dec. 1, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 58 per cent of cases and from Nov. 18 to Dec. 1, they accounted for 65.9 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,303 (54 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 96 (four per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,012 (42 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Nov. 18 to Dec. 1)—Total 246

• Not vaccinated: 151 (61.4 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 11 (4.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 84 (34.1 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 25 to Dec. 1)

• Not vaccinated: 176.3

• Partially vaccinated: 44.0

• Fully vaccinated: 22.6

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Nov. 18 to Dec. 1)

• Not vaccinated: 32.6

• Partially vaccinated: 7.8

• Fully vaccinated: 1.8
