B.C. preparing to distribute rapid tests to public

B.C. is preparing for rapid test distribution to the public, starting first with seniors and depending on availability, according to a government news release. Details on the plan will be outlined during next week's media briefing.

Health officials reported 692 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 343,631 cases.

Of the new cases, 75 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 157 in the Fraser Health region, 105 in the Island Health region, 217 in the Interior Health region, 138 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 733 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 113 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,216,953 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,266,168 of those are second doses and 2,497,228 are third doses. 

This means that 93.5 per cent of adults, 93.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.5 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.0 per cent of adults, 90.6 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 85.6 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 56.2 per cent of adults and 53.9 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were five new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,786. Of those who died, one lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, three in the Fraser Health region, and one in the Island Health region.

Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 30 long-term care facilities and three acute care facilities.

From Feb. 10 to 16, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 22.1 per cent of cases.
From Feb. 3 to 16, they accounted for 32.0 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 189 (3.6 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 4,114 (77.9 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 34 (4.0 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 579 (68.0 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 238.6

• Partially vaccinated: 85.0

• Fully vaccinated: 90.7

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 3 to 16)

• Not vaccinated: 65.0

• Partially vaccinated: 30.3

• Fully vaccinated: 12.3
