B.C. reports 291 new COVID-19 cases, six deaths

B.C. health officials reported 291 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 356,252 cases.
Of the new cases, 53 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 60 in the Fraser Health region, 57 in the Island Health region, 102 in the Interior Health region, 19 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
According to the latest local data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, cases in Richmond rose slightly last week (March 20 to 26) to 28, up from 20 the previous week (March 13 to 19).
There are 276 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 43 are in intensive care.
To date, 11,487,827 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,351,830 of those are second doses and 2,665,395 are third doses.
This means that 93.8 per cent of adults, 93.5 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.5 per cent of adults, 91.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 87.3 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 59.3 per cent of adults and 57.5 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.
Sadly, there were six new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,996. Of those who died, one lived in the Fraser Health region, one in the Island Health region, one in the Interior Health region, and three in the Northern Health region.
Active outbreaks continue at six long-term care facilities and one acute care facility.
From March 22 to 28, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 17.7 per cent of cases. From March 15 to 28, they accounted for 20.4 per cent of hospitalizations.
