B.C. reports COVID-19 data from Aug. 21 to 27

In the past week (Aug. 21 to 27) there were 651 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C., bringing the overall total to 382,436 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 128 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 229 in the Fraser Health region, 107 in the Island Health region, 153 in the Interior Health region, and 34 in the Northern Health region.

As of today, there are 306 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C., 25 of whom are in critical care.

There were 160 new hospital admissions in the past week (Aug. 21 to 27). Of those, 42 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 57 in the Fraser Health region, 29 in the Island Health region, 24 in the Interior Health region, and eight in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 admissions in the previous week (Aug. 14 to 20) increased to 213 from the 180 originally reported last week.

There were 25 new critical care admissions in the past week (Aug. 21 to 27). Of those, five were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 13 in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, four in the Interior Health region, and zero in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of critical care admissions in the previous week (Aug. 14 to 20) increased to 44 from the 41 originally reported last week.

The 30-day all-cause mortality report, which includes COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related deaths occurring within 30 days from a positive lab result, indicates there were 33 deaths between Aug. 21 and 27. 

Of those who died, five lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, seven in the Fraser Health region, 10 in the Island Health region, 11 in the Interior Health region, and zero in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the previous week (Aug. 14 to 20) increased to 45 from the 33 originally reported last week. Deaths the previous week (Aug. 7 to 13) increased by two to 45.

Locally, the latest data from the BCCDC indicates that there were 26 cases in Richmond last week (Aug. 21 to 27), down from 39 the previous week (Aug. 14 to 20).
