The City of Richmond is celebrating National Seniors Day (Oct. 1) with free community activities.

Celebrations include a dance performance and two socials. While focused on residents over 55 years of age, everyone is welcome to attend the activities taking place on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1.

As part of National Seniors Day—also designated International Day of Older Persons by the United Nations General Assembly—the City of Richmond will be displaying its annual Positive Aging Campaign, which aims to diminish ageism and existing stereotypes through showcasing positive images of seniors in the community. This year’s theme, “seniors building connection in the community,” highlights seven seniors who are aging positively in Richmond by inspiring others, being active, or ensuring newcomers feel welcomed. The campaign runs from Oct. 1 to 7 and can be viewed on the city website.

The public is encouraged to attend any of the following free activities to celebrate seniors and their contribution to society. Pre-registration is required for all activities as space is limited. Register with the corresponding barcode online at richmond.ca/register, by calling 604-276-4300 (weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or in-person at any city community facility. Programs offered are:
