A 21-year-old Toronto man was the victim in a fatal shooting that happened in Richmond on Sunday (Oct. 2).

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team investigators are naming Shemar Jack as the victim in the hopes of furthering their investigation. Investigators believe this is a targeted shooting connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Richmond RCMP received multiple calls of shots fired in the 8000 block of Sunnymede Crescent (near Blundell and No. 3 roads) just after 11 p.m. that night. When they arrived, officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to local hospitals where one was confirmed deceased. The other remains in critical condition.

The next day (Oct. 3), at 7:30 a.m., Surrey RCMP received a call of a burnt vehicle in the 17000-block of 92 Avenue. IHIT is working to determine if it is connected to the homicide.

“Investigators continue to canvass both scenes for witnesses and video. If you have information and have yet to speak to police, please contact IHIT,” says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “If you have a vehicle with a dash camera, please check to see if it has any recordings. Some vehicle cameras record even while the engine is off.”

IHIT is asking any witnesses, or anyone who has dash camera video of the 8100 block of Sunnymede Crescent between 10 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 2 or the 17000 block of 92 Avenue in Surrey between 6 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 3, to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
