Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra (RDYO) is looking for a new place to call home. The non-profit society for Professional Orchestral Preparation for Young Musicians has been in existence for 50 years and will soon have no place to call home for almost 200 members.

After June 30, the society will be losing their space for administration, rehearsals, and storage. The organization had received notice from their landlords that the property was up for sale and they would need to vacate.

After exhausting all possible leads for alternative space, nowhere is able to accommodate the sound, size, and time-of-day availability as well as storage needs of music arts organizations. Finding an alternative venue to provide both an adequate rehearsal space and accessible equipment storage is proving to be a considerable challenge.

"RDYO is important. The excellence of our orchestral training program has been recognized through provincial and national championships. Students benefit from opportunities to experience music at a high level, and many have gone on to careers in music.

Concerto competitions, chamber music and small ensembles, scholarship awards, fall development camp, special masterclasses and workshops, new music projects, and young composers are all unique opportunities for students of RDYO, and require appropriate spaces to rehearse and perform. We hope someone will step forward and help us out”, said Stephen Robb, RDYO Music Director.

We are reaching out to our community of families and the greater community of Richmond to seek help for an immediate, even temporary solution for our organization. RDYO provides a safe environment for students aged 8 to 18 to develop as young musicians. As they challenge themselves to reach their maximum potential, they develop lifelong friendships and pave the way for a successful future.

The impact of this situation on our students  and our charity will be profound if we cannot find an immediate solution before the end of June.
