Curious to try nature bathing, find a new local park to explore or want to wander into the past on a self-guided walking tour? Then June is the perfect month to try all three.

It’s Recreation and Parks Month and the City of Richmond is celebrating with many local programs, spaces and places aimed at improving your health and wellness while having fun.

From June 1 to 30, follow @cityofrichmondbc on Facebook and Instagram to learn about the many activities, exciting events and energizing programs to participate in. For example,

  • Track your active minutes via the ParticipACTION Community Challenge app to help the City of Richmond defend its title as “BC’s Most Active Community”.
  • See the city in a different light on one of the Richmond Museum’s three self-guided historic walking tours that will take you back in time.
  • Nature bath in Terra Nova Rural Park, Garden City Park or Richmond Nature Park. This is a mindful activity to connect with nature based on the Japanese practice called “Shinrin-Yoku” or “Forest Bathing”. Towels are not required.
  • Travel by bike somewhere – anywhere – in Richmond as part of the Go by Bike Week (May 29 to June 4).
  • Unleash your curiosity by exploring a new playground, natural area or trail, or cool off in a splash park! The City has over 1,500 acres of open space to experience and enjoy.
  • Gather a foursome and play a round or two of 9-hole golf at West Richmond Pitch & Putt.
  • Explore our Island City and discover Richmond's unique natural and cultural heritage on a GeoTour and find some – or all – of 50 special geocaches. Download information online or visit the Richmond Nature Park today to pick up your passport and get started.
  • Join a staff-led public art tour during Doors Open Richmond (June 3 and 4) or try a self-guided tour by bike or on foot.
  • Choose a fishing, hiking or birding nature kit from the Richmond Public Library. Not only is it fun, but becoming a Library member is free.

Active Jack, the city’s Recreation and Sport mascot, will be at events and activities throughout June and everyone can enter a draw in-person for a chance to win a Fitbit prize pack! The lucky winner will be contacted in early July.

For a full listing of Recreation and Parks Month activities and information on how to register, check out the Recreation and Parks Month brochure found at richmond.ca/parks-recreation or pick up a copy at any community facility.
