Richmond is calling for volunteers to become real Snow Angels over the upcoming winter season. Heavy snowfall and ice can cause challenges for some residents, particularly elderly citizens and residents with illnesses, disabilities or mobility challenges. Richmond’s volunteer Snow Angels program is back for its ninth year to help those in need of assistance with the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and walkways. New this year, all Snow Angel volunteers will receive a shovel and a toque.

This volunteer-driven program is dependent on resources, severity of the storm and the priority needs of callers. An accumulation of three or more centimetres of snow is needed to activate the program. Although assistance is not guaranteed, participating volunteers will make every effort to help all qualified residents.

If you would like to give back to your community over the holiday season by becoming a Snow Angels volunteer, visit icanhelp.richmond.ca or contact the City’s Community Services Division at 604-244-1208 or parks@richmond.ca. You may select the geographic community you wish to serve or you can choose to provide help city-wide.

In order to better serve the community during adverse weather, the City is requesting all residents in need of a Snow Angel to register for assistance before Sunday, Dec. 1. All residents who register after Dec.1 will be put on a waitlist. If you are a resident in need of the Snow Angel program, requests for assistance should be made by contacting the Snow Angel Coordinator at 604-247-4453.

In addition to the Snow Angels program, the City of Richmond encourages its residents and community members to Be a Good Neighbour. This initiative requests that residents assist those in their neighbourhood who may not be able to clear their walkways in front of their homes. It is simply something to keep in mind if snow starts to fall.
