Richmond’s Public Works Open House will take place on Sept. 7 fro 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Richmond welcomes the community to the Public Works Open House on Sept. 7

Discover the inner workings of the City of Richmond's essential services at the annual Public Works Open House. Visitors will get to see and learn about water services, sewer infrastructure, roads, parks and much more from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city's Operations Yard (5599 Lynas Lane) on Saturday, Sept. 7.
People can enjoy a fun-filled day of interactive activities at this free, outdoor event, which will take place rain or shine. Among the offerings:
- Children may pick up an event passport at the Greeting Station to receive a free kid's food coupon and collect stamps from various booths to enter to win a raffle prize
- Live entertainment will fill the air with music by FKA Rayne, the Wild Moccasin Dancers and Serengeti
- Visitors can explore booths from various city departments, check out full-sized heavy equipment such as excavators and dump trucks, and take pictures with a Richmond Fire-Rescue fire truck
- Learn more about flood protection and other city initiatives
- Kidstruction and playground areas will offer fun ways for children to burn some energy
- Interactive environmental exhibits will provide lawn care and gardening information, along with sustainability and conservation tips
Bring a reusable water bottle to hydrate with some of Canada's best drinking water from one of the many portable tap water stations available at the event. There will also be food vendors with delicious meals and snack options.
Event parking is limited so walking, carpooling, cycling, rolling or taking public transit is highly encouraged. Overflow parking will be available at the Austria Club, Blair Elementary School, JN Burnett Secondary School, McKay Elementary School and Thompson Elementary School.
Shuttles will also be continuously provided from 10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. between the city's Operations Yard and select overflow parking locations. Wheel Watch will be on site to safely secure bicycles, scooters, wagons and strollers for free during the event.
