During the COVID-19 pandemic, more people are using masks, single-use gloves, and wipes. But these items aren’t always being properly disposed of, according to Richmond city staff.

Not properly disposing of items that could be contaminated puts others at risk—especially during a serious outbreak.

Place these items in plastic bags, tie the bags securely—no loose items—and put them in the garbage. Don’t place them in recycling bins.

And when out in the community, don’t litter. Toss items in a garbage can, not on the ground. Better yet, carry a plastic bag with you, place items in the bag and then into the garbage.

If caught littering, you could receive a hefty bylaw fine.

We all have an important role to be responsible and courteous to others in the community—especially our waste collection front line workers—by disposing of these materials properly.

Do your part to keep others safe.
