News release: Election nomination and candidate information packages now available

Election nomination and candidate information packages now available
 
Richmond, BC – Eligible candidates can now access a nomination and candidate information package if they are considering running for office this year. The nomination packages are available online at richmond.ca/elections or at City Hall.
 
To run in the Richmond election, a candidate must:
  • Be a resident of BC for at least six months before filing their nomination documents
  • Be at least 18 years old on General Voting Day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Not be disqualified by law

Candidates are required to submit their nomination papers during the nomination period, beginning Tuesday, September 1 at 9:00am and ending Friday, September 11 at 4:00pm.
 
Candidates may submit their nomination papers in person at City Hall (by appointment), allowing staff to review documents and help avoid delays. Appointments can be scheduled by contacting the Elections Office at 604-276-4100 or elections@richmond.caAlternatively, candidates may submit their completed nomination papers electronically toelections@richmond.ca after completing the solemn declaration in front of a lawyer, notary or Commissioner for Taking Affidavits in British Columbia.
 
Richmond voters will be electing one Mayor, eight Councillors and seven School Board Trustees on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
