Starting Monday, city hall will be open for collection of tax and utility payments—but not cash payments. Anyone who prefers to pay their tax or utility bill by cash must do so at their financial institution.

After closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, next week city hall will accept cheques, debit or credit cards as valid forms of payment. They will be open weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will adhere to strict physical distancing guidelines along with entry and exit rules.

Over 80,000 tax notices were issued recently, with payment due on or before July 2. People are encouraged to pay by that date so the city can continue to provide vital services and community supports.

People can also continue to pay online through their financial institution or the city website, or by cheque mailed to the city or left in the city hall drop box.

The city previously extended the penalty period for taxpayers this year. Penalties will not apply until Sept. 30, or longer if an individual has successfully applied to the BC Property Tax Deferment Program by that date.

For more information on the city’s tax payment process, visit www.richmond.ca/tax. Tax or utility enquiries can be made by phone to the City Tax Department at 604-276-4145 or via email to taxdept@richmond.ca.
