RCMP’s Musical Ride makes Aug. 14 stop in Richmond

For the first time since 2013, the RCMP’s Musical Ride choreographed horse cavalry drills show will be appearing in Richmond.
Musical Ride will appear at Twin Oaks Farm—13671 No 3 Rd., south of Steveston Highway—on Tuesday, Aug. 14 starting at 7:45 p.m.
The show is presented by the Steveston Rotary Club in partnership with the City of Richmond, Richmond RCMP and Twin Oaks Farm.
In a horse show choreographed to music, a troop of 32 Mounties in red and riding on black horses, present a 30-minute show of intricate figures and drills.

It was the North-West Mounted Police, fuelled by their desire to compete amongst themselves and perform tricks on horseback while alleviating the monotony of riding drills, who developed Musical Ride to entertain the community.
Musical Ride features Hannoverian horses bred at Remount Detachment in Ontario. Horses weigh between 525 kg and 635 kg.
Young horses, referred to as remounts, begin their training at three years of age, and when they turn six, they start Musical Ride training.
Musical Ride helps more than 40 communities raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for a number of causes each year.
The Musical Ride team includes 36 horses, 35 riders, a farrier, three non-commissioned officers and an officer in charge.
