RITE Richmond announces council slate

RITE Richmond announced four council candidates Thursday night at the Richmond Curling Club, three of whom are familiar faces, and the fourth a relative newcomer to the political arena.
Coun. Carol Day was joined by McNair teacher Michael Wolfe—who has repeatedly run for council during the last four elections—as well as Henry Yao, who has run for council previously, and new to politics Niti Sharma.
Day told an enthusiastic and engaged group of supporters Thursday that she’d like her four candidates to join Coun. Harold Steves and Kelly Greene (both of whom were in attendance) and the rest of the RCA slate (Jack Trovato and Judie Schneider) to form all of the new council and make some serious changes at Richmond city hall.
Whether it’s the future of farmland and the mega mansion controversy, or upgrades to the crossing of the south arm of the Fraser, Day made RITE Richmond’s position clear.
She’d like the city to follow provincial rules that would stop new mansions from popping up on farmland in Richmond, and for the George Massey tunnel to be twinned, rather than building a mega-expensive bridge on unsuitably soft soil.
