Walk for Alzheimer's raises $850,000

Appreciating that “Nobody should walk alone,”
thousands of British Columbians joined forces last weekend in the fight against
dementia.
On the morning of May 6, locals gathered at
the Thompson Community Centre to participate in the Investors Group Walk for
Alzheimer’s to honour Bryan Springgay, one of the estimated 70,000 people in
B.C. who are living with dementia.
Those who have passed away were also
remembered, as participants helped raise awareness and critical funds.
“Based on preliminary counts, we have raised
well over $850,000 at Walk events across the province,” said Maria Howard,
chief executive officer at the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
Funds will provide local education programs
and support services, and assist in the research into the causes and cure of
the disease—a progressive, degenerative brain disease most often diagnosed in
people over 65.
