Capitalizing on your ideas and drive

Do you know, or are you, a young person
between 15 and 25 years of age who would love to start their own business? The
Richmond Public Library would like to lend a helping hand, the tools to succeed and the time to get things
started. The program is free of charge to registrants.
Last year’s Young Entrepreneurs program was
so successful that this year there will be 15 spaces for participants. The
program runs from July 10 to 31 on on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings
at the Brighouse branch. Registration opens May 1.
"This program, more than anything else
made me realize how much I want to start my own business, as well as giving me
access to peers, and mentors with the same goal," said one of last year’s
successful finalists in the Young Entrepreneurs program.
Successful Young Entrepreneurs applicants
will attend a series of workshops by business professionals on how to create a
business plan, marketing, budgeting and writing an elevator pitch, the brief
but catchy explanation of their project.
“At the same time, participants will apply
the skills they’ve learned to create their own business pitch, to be presented
at a formal Dragon’s Den style event. The program concludes with a finale event
with prizes, awards and certificates awarded to the top three participants,”
says the Richmond Public Library’s Stephanie Vokey, coordinator for marketing
and public relations.
While applications are accepted at http://rpl.yourlibrary.ca/events_calendar/yep
until 5 p.m. June 5, the spaces will likely fill up quickly. Applications will
be screened. Successful participants must commit to attending the full program
series. For more information, contact Summer Sheng at 604-231-6480.
The Richmond Public Library is committed to
diversity. They encourage underrepresented groups, including young women, to
consider applying. You never know if you don’t try.
