Richmond RCMP have arrested a man with two outstanding warrants.

Officers conducting routine, targeted patrols in Richmond’s downtown core saw the man on Sept. 15. He was arrested safely and without incident. Subsequent to his arrest, while searching his belongings, officers located an AR-15 style assault rifle.

The male was held in-custody. James Bonney has since been charged with seven counts including carrying a firearm without reasonable precautions for the safety of others and carrying a prohibited weapon without a license.

“We are committed to keeping the public safe in Richmond which is why we are out there doing targeted enforcement,” said Sgt. Simon Lee, NCO in charge of targeted enforcement units. “In this case it allowed us to get a firearm off the street. Any day we are able to do that is a great day.”

Anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding this incident is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-25115. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
