With the return of cooler temperatures, Richmond’s fitness and recreation programs are moving indoors starting Monday.

Pre-registration for all indoor programs is required and is open as of 10 a.m. today (Oct. 13). Among the programs on offer are drawing and painting for children; K-Pop dancing for pre-teens and youth; basketball for children and preteens; mini hip hoppers for pre-schoolers; and wacky science for children. Adults will also have a wide range of options such as Qigong; Tai Chi; cycle and dance fit; yoga; and functional training.

All facilities and programs will meet strict health and safety guidelines as set out by local and provincial health authorities, WorkSafeBC, as well as relevant industry associations. Programs will also operate with reduced capacity and activities may be increased or decreased based on demand and public safety.

Programs will be offered at community centres across the city including Cambie, South Arm, Thompson, City Centre, Hamilton, West Richmond and Steveston, in addition to fitness and aquatics activities at the Minoru Centre for Active Living.

Pre-register online at richmond.ca/register using your MyRichmond account (anyone without one can easily create one at myrichmond.richmond.ca) or by calling 604-276-4300.

Registration for multiple session programs is ongoing. Single session classes may be booked one week at a time, with registration beginning each Monday at 10 a.m. for classes held the following week.

In accordance with safety plans, strict protocols will be in place. This includes physical distancing among participants, and no sharing of water bottles, towels, mats or other items. Facilities remain closed to the public. Only pre-registered clients will be permitted into the facility. Other safety requirements will be shared upon registration.

Anyone registering should not have signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or experienced any in the previous 14 days. They must also not have returned from outside Canada in the previous 14 days or been in contact with someone who has a presumed or confirmed case of COVID-19.
