Summer may be over but for the participants in the Richmond Library’s summer readingprogram, the words they read will long linger in their minds.
Richmond mayor, Malcolm Brodie spoke to the
1,000 attendees at the Summer Reading Finale, Sept. 9. Mayor Brodie and members
of the library board awarded prizes to the school with the highest
participation, as well as to winners of the children’s bookmark contest in
addition to the adult and teen Summer Reading Club winners.
Library Board members, Chief Librarian Susan
Walters, Coun. Alexa Loo and Mayor Brodie gave medals to the children who
participated in the Summer Reading Club before everyone joined in a variety of
activities throughout the afternoon event.
Summer Reading Club is free of charge and its
purpose is to encourage people to spend summer hours enjoying reading, in
whatever form it takes.
With over 4,000 participants in their summer
reading club, the Richmond library continues to write new pages in this
Canadian tradition that stretches back over half a century.
