Howard Jampolsky didn’t have to be asked
twice to head up organizing Richmond’s Terry Fox Run.
As if Fox’s own courageous story wasn’t
enough, 18 months before taking on the responsibility four years ago to oversee
the local event, Jampolsky lost his father-in-law to cancer.
“My wife Marla read that they were looking
for someone to take it on and felt it was something I should do,” explains the
Richmond entrepreneur, who with his wife by his side, will again be heading up
the local Terry Fox Run Sunday, Sept. 17 at Garry Point Park. Registration is
at 9 a.m., with the run starting promptly at 10 a.m.
Jampolsky, who welcomes anyone interested in
joining the committee or helping out on the day of the run, says it’s heart
warming so many people on the committee return year after year. He credits them
with helping to make things go smoothly.
“The first year I didn’t know how much was
involved,” he explains. “There’s a lot of detailed and organizational work, but
we have a great committee that puts in a lot of time and effort.”
Applauding the many individuals and companies
who annually step up to support the event and cause, Jampolsky says it’s
gratifying to see their contributions being put to such good use.
“The Terry Fox Research Institute does real
research which has led to tangible gains in cancer treatment,” he explains.
