Weekend COVID-19 cases decrease compared to last weekend

B.C. health authorities reported 1,986 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 189,680 cases.

This is a decrease from last weekend’s count of 2,239 new cases. 

Of the new cases, 226 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 782 in the Fraser Health region, 218 in the Island Health region, 414 in the Interior Health region, 346 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 5,986 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 326 of those people are hospitalized, 142 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 7,884,070 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,782,008 of those are second doses. 

This means that 88.7 per cent of adults and 88.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 82.3 per cent of adults and 81.6 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were 10 new virus-related deaths reported since Friday, bringing that total to 1,983. Of those who died, two lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, five in the Fraser Health region, one in the Interior Health region and two in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported two new healthcare facility outbreaks and declared four over. Active outbreaks continue at 15 long-term care facilities, three assisted or independent living facilities and two acute care facilities.

From Sept. 24 to 30, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 71.5 per cent of cases and from Sept. 17 to 30, they accounted for 81.4 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 3,303 (64.7 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 346 (6.8 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,457 (28.5 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Sept. 17 to 30)—Total 383

• Not vaccinated: 272 (71.0 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 40 (10.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 71 (18.5 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Sept. 24 to 30)

• Not vaccinated: 295.7

• Partially vaccinated: 98.5

• Fully vaccinated: 35.8

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Sept. 17 to 30)

• Not vaccinated: 40.5

• Partially vaccinated: 17.0

• Fully vaccinated: 1.6
