B.C. has surpassed the 200,000 mark in total COVID-19 cases.

The province reached 100,000 cases on March 31, near the height of the third wave. While it took about a year for the province to record its first 100,000 cases, that number doubled after just six months.

Health officials reported 715 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the cumulative total to 200,249.

Of the new cases, 60 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 285 in the Fraser Health region, 61 in the Island Health region, 137 in the Interior Health region, 172 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 4,965 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 377 of those people are hospitalized, 136 of whom are in intensive care.

To date, 8,103,896 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,883,585 of those are second doses.

This means that 89.8 per cent of adults and 89.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 84.4 per cent of adults and 83.8 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Sadly, there were four new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,096. All four people who died lived in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported two new healthcare facility outbreaks. Active outbreaks continue at 15 long-term care facilities, six assisted or independent living facilities and five acute care facilities.

From Oct. 13 to 19, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 66.4 per cent of cases and from Oct. 6 to 19, they accounted for 76.2 per cent of hospitalizations.
