B.C. records 649 cases, 13 deaths

B.C. health authorities reported 649 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 200,898 cases.

Sadly, there were 13 new virus-related deaths reported, bringing that total to 2,109. Matching last Friday’s number, this is the highest in a single day since early February.

Of those who died, three lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, two in the Fraser Health region, two in the Island Health region, three in the Interior Health region and three in the Northern Health region. 

Of the new cases, 61 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 281 in the Fraser Health region, 89 in the Island Health region, 88 in the Interior Health region, 130 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 5,106 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 365 of those people are hospitalized, 143 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 8,120,458 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,891,058 of those are second doses. 

This means that 89.9 per cent of adults and 89.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 84.6 per cent of adults and 83.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.

Health authorities reported one healthcare facility outbreak over. Active outbreaks continue at 15 long-term care facilities, five assisted or independent living facilities and five acute care facilities.

From Oct. 14 to 20, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 65.2 per cent of cases. From Oct. 7 to 20, they accounted for 77.0 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 2,584 (57.7 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 338 (7.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,558 (34.8 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Oct. 7 to 20)—Total 452

• Not vaccinated: 322 (71.2 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 26 (5.8 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 104 (23.0 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 14 to 20)

• Not vaccinated: 311.3

• Partially vaccinated: 99.5

• Fully vaccinated: 36.7

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Oct. 7 to 20)

• Not vaccinated: 55.7

• Partially vaccinated: 11.5

• Fully vaccinated: 2.3
