It was a turn in the right direction for James Gordon-Carmichael that netted him $202,038.20 thanks to an unexpected pull over to purchase a Lotto 6/49 ticket.

He was driving down Vancouver’s Thurlow Street when he spotted a Martway corner store to his left and decided to stop and buy a Lotto 6/49 ticket. It ended up matching five of the six numbers, plus the bonus number, in the Nov. 10 draw.

“I was at my house and I scanned it with my phone,” said Gordon-Carmichael, who immediately called one of his daughters after realizing his big win. “I was crying and laughing all at once. She thought someone passed away. It was a crazy conversation.”
