Richmond Centre is celebrating Lunar New Year with decorations themed around the Year of the Tiger, this year’s Chinese zodiac sign.

People can visit the mall to see the decorations, which include lanterns, decals, photo backdrops and videos displayed on digital screens and directories.

The mall is also offering a digital contest based on Chinese mythology. QR codes located inside the mall can be scanned to play an interactive digital game called “Year of the Tiger Great Race.” By correctly answering a riddle related to one of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, people will be invited to enter a contest to win an $888 gift card. The lucky number eight symbolizes wealth and prosperity in Chinese culture.

“We’re pleased to be able to safely celebrate the Lunar New Year at our Cadillac Fairview properties with enchanting displays, interactive digital experiences and exciting promotions,” said Andrea Nickel, director of customer experience and marketing communications at Cadillac Fairview, which operates Richmond Centre along with other malls across Canada.

“While the holiday will understandably look different again this year, we’re eager to do our part in keeping these cultural traditions alive during this special time of year.”

Cadillac Fairview will also be offering a bonus gift card to people who pay for their purchases with UnionPay through Feb. 6. Spend $1,000 to get a $50 gift card, $3,000 to get a $150 gift card, or $5,000 to get a $300 gift card.

To mark the Lunar New Year in style, Cadillac Fairview will also present shoppers with a limited-edition gift card design to celebrate the Year of the Tiger available at participating centres.
