B.C. reports 44 COVID-19 deaths since Friday

Since Friday, there have been 44 additional deaths related to COVID-19 in B.C.

Of those who died, 17 lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 11 in the Fraser Health region, five in the Island Health region, seven in the Interior Health region, and four in the Northern Health region. To date, there have been 2,830 COVID-related deaths in the province.

Health officials also reported 2,103 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 345,734 cases.

The numbers of new and total cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh, according to a B.C. government news release.

Of the new cases, 326 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 615 in the Fraser Health region, 337 in the Island Health region, 610 in the Interior Health region, 215 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 688 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 108 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,281,350 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,282,333 of those are second doses and 2,542,724 are third doses. 

This means that 93.5 per cent of adults, 93.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.5 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.1 per cent of adults, 90.6 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 85.9 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 57.0 per cent of adults and 54.9 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Health authorities reported four new health-care facility outbreaks and declared six over. Active outbreaks continue at 27 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility, and three acute care facilities.

From Feb. 11 to 17, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 21.4 per cent of cases.
From Feb. 4 to 17, they accounted for 32.0 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Partially vaccinated: 169 (3.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 3,885 (78.6 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 225 (28.0 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 32 (4.0 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 545 (68.0 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 11 to 17)

• Not vaccinated: 220.0

• Partially vaccinated: 77.9

• Fully vaccinated: 85.3

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 4 to 17)

• Not vaccinated: 61.8

• Partially vaccinated: 28.3

• Fully vaccinated: 11.6
