B.C. reports 288 new COVID-19 cases, three deaths

B.C. health officials reported 288 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 352,039 cases.

Of the new cases, 47 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 71 in the Fraser Health region, 47 in the Island Health region, 93 in the Interior Health region, 30 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 368 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 46 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,398,503 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,318,406 of those are second doses and 2,616,170 are third doses. 

This means that 93.7 per cent of adults, 93.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.7 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.3 per cent of adults, 90.9 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.6 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 58.4 per cent of adults and 56.4 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were three new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,935. All three of the people who died lived in the Fraser Health region.

Active outbreaks continue at 12 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility, and one acute care facility.

From March 3 to 9, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 18.0 per cent of cases.

From Feb. 24 to March 9, they accounted for 28.7 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 318 (15.4 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 53 (2.6 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 1,698 (82.0 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Feb. 24 to March 9)—Total 373

• Not vaccinated: 87 (23.3 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 20 (5.4 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 266 (71.3 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (March 3 to 9)

• Not vaccinated: 88.1

• Partially vaccinated: 30.8

• Fully vaccinated: 36.2

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 24 to March 9)

• Not vaccinated: 24.5

• Partially vaccinated: 18.6

• Fully vaccinated: 5.6
