B.C. reports 271 new COVID-19 cases, six deaths

B.C. health officials reported 271 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 354,874 cases.
Of the new cases, 30 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 54 in the Fraser Health region, 60 in the Island Health region, 96 in the Interior Health region, 31 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
The latest local data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control indicates that cases in Richmond dropped to 20 last week (March 13 to 19), down from 46 the previous week (March 6 to 12).
There are 255 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 52 are in intensive care.
To date, 11,462,806 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,343,349 of those are second doses and 2,651,042 are third doses.
This means that 93.8 per cent of adults, 93.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.8 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.4 per cent of adults, 91.0 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 87.1 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 59.0 per cent of adults and 57.2 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.
Sadly, there were six new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,981. Of those who died, three lived in the Fraser Health region, one in the Interior Health region, and two in the Northern Health region.
Health authorities reported one health-care facility outbreak over. Active outbreaks continue at three long-term care facilities and one acute care facility.
From March 16 to 22, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 16.1 per cent of cases. From March 9 to 22, they accounted for 25.9 per cent of hospitalizations.
