While the bargains look massive for Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving, so do the traffic line-ups so both McArthur Glen and the Vancouver International Airport Authority suggest planning ahead and, if possible, use the nearby Canada Line for your trip.

This Friday (Nov. 29) and the following weekend, has become a big shopping and bargain-hunting day throughout North America and our high end designer outlet mall, McArthurGlen on Sea Island, is no exception.

YVR has sent out a notice saying, “We are working closely with traffic management personnel and RCMP traffic enforcement; however, we anticipate heavy congestion and those travelling to and from the airport should expect delays.”

YVR’s suggestions are:

  • YVR travellers: For those who must drive to the airport, leave extra time and have a parking plan. You can pre-book parking at yvr.ca/parking. For those planning to use the Value Long Term lot, adjacent to Templeton Station, be aware that you may face lengthier delays due to the close proximity to McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. Travellers are also advised to monitor traffic reports and take the Canada Line if possible.
  • Employees on Sea Island: Employees are advised to take the Canada Line if possible. For those who must drive, leave extra time as heavy traffic is expected and may impact your commute time.
  • Black Friday shoppers: Shoppers are encouraged to take the Canada Line if possible. McArthurGlen is only steps away from Canada Line’s Templeton Station. For those who must drive, expect delays accessing McArthurGlen Designer Outlet.

Last year, with lots of warning, most people planned ahead, took Canada Line and avoided massive traffic delays and tie-ups.
