Almost 30 students from across the city have been recognized for their commitment to history and heritage as part of the 2024 Richmond Regional Heritage Fair.

Sponsored by the Richmond Museum Society, BC Heritage Fairs Society, Richmond School District, Richmond Heritage Commission, Canada’s History, and the BC Arts Council, the Heritage Fair is an initiative to encourage students to explore Canadian history and heritage in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.

Thousands of students participate in Heritage Fairs across the country each year, and 123 local students shared their knowledge about Canada’s fascinating past at the 22nd annual Richmond Regional Heritage Fair on May 10. Students from seven elementary schools across Richmond created exciting displays with themes that ranged from prominent Canadians such as Viola Desmond and Carey Price, to significant events like the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Awards were presented in 17 categories to 27 students. Among them are three who received the BC Heritage Fairs Stellar Achievement Award and will now represent Richmond at the BC Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria in July. Those students and their presentation topic are:

  • One Team One Mission, Cyrus Chen, Cornerstone Christian Academy
  • Steveston, Jules Jouvin, Ecole des Navigateurs
  • Our Forgotten Past, Matthew Wang, William Bridge Elementary
