2025-2026 PRODUCTIONS
Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B - Oct. 16 to 25, 2025
Directed by Lauren Taylor, this sharp and comedic reinvention of the classic detective tale is exactly what you’re looking for this fall. Follow Sherlock Holmes (don’t call her Shirley!) and Joan Watson as they stumble through post-pandemic life, solving crimes with chaotic brilliance. Written by Kate Hamill, Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B is a feminist take on your favourite detective duo, filled with goofy antics, baffling characters, and maybe even some breaking of the fourth wall.
Annie - Dec. 11, 2025 to Jan. 3, 2026
This holiday season, the team that brought Oliver! to Gateway is back with the classic musical Annie. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie steals everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. On her adventures, she finds a new home and family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. With book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, this family-friendly musical is chock full of recognizable tunes like “Tomorrow” and “Hard Knock Life” that will have the whole family singing together after the show.
Where Have All the Buffalo Gone? - Feb. 16 to 21, 2026
Gateway hosts Axis Theatre’s production of Where Have All the Buffalo Gone? in our Studio B space. This Theatre for Young Audiences show is written by Tai Amy Grauman and directed by Amanda Testini. Where Have All The Buffalo Gone? follows two souls as they journey through seven important moments in Métis history – from the birth of Métis nations on the plains, to the colonization driven by the fur trade, the disappearance of the buffalo, and the rise of the Métis Association of Alberta. This moving tale weaves together stories and a life-like buffalo puppet with true historical events to explore the love, loss, and resilience of Treaty 6’s Métis peoples. This production is perfect to be enjoyed by youth ages 9 and up and is a great way to celebrate Family Day on February 16.
Wildwoman - March 26 to April 4, 2026
Directed by Jamie King, Canadian playwright Kat Sandler (Yaga) brings her trademark rapid-fire wit to this salacious saga of an infamous bad girl who could not be tamed. Based on the outrageous true story that inspired Beauty and the Beast, this provocative and wickedly entertaining show is the feminist revenge comedy you didn’t know you needed. As a young bride thrust into the twisted court of King Henry II, Catherine de Medici quickly discovers that her royal role isn’t one of power, but of obedience, silence, and heir creation. Surrounded by betrayal, manipulation, and the cold machinery of patriarchy, Catherine is caged—until she meets him: a mysterious, feral man imprisoned in the dungeon, more beast than courtier, yet the only soul who sees her fire. Wildwoman is a co-production with Alberta Theatre projects.
