Richmondites can sign up to become pollinator and “bee ambassadors” through the Richmond Nectar Trail.

The more people who participate and grow pollen-rich plants at home, the more successful a Richmond-wide nectar trail will become. A nectar trail enables bees and other pollinators to travel through the city easily and fruitfully.

In the springtime, the best plants for attracting bees include crocuses, chives and cornflowers.

Here’s how to be part of Richmond’s nectar trail:

• Register your garden at nectartrail@richmond.ca

• Maintain your garden full of pollinating plants

• Post photos of your garden on social media with the hashtag #RmdNectarTrail, anytime until the fall

Local public art and pollinator habitat initiative Border Free Bees is an important partner in this initiative.

Other family-fun campaigns around town include #natureinmyneighbourhood, #Richmondhasheart, and #RichmondConnect. For more information visit www.richmond.ca.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all participants should stay close to home and explore their immediate community to reduce overcrowding in parks and on trails. Maintain a minimum two-metre physical distance from others and avoid gatherings.
