On January 5, 2026 at approximately 6 p.m., Richmond front-line officers initially responded to a report of 911 call that was mapping to the approximate area of the intersection of No.1 Rd and Youngmore Rd. Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian laying on the ground. The pedestrian was rushed to a local area hospital with serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.

The Richmond Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and a thorough video canvass of the area confirmed the pedestrian was crossing the road when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of this vehicle has been identified, and speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors to the collision.

Video canvassing of the incident also showed there was another pedestrian that was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident. “This pedestrian may have key information about the collision,” said Corporal Kenneth LAU. “If you were in the area, investigators are looking to speak with you to learn out more about the incident.”

The public is also reminded to take extra precautions when crossing roads, as weather and lighting conditions at this time of the year can make it challenging for drivers to identify pedestrians crossing at night. Always look both ways before crossing, wear reflective clothing if possible, and never assume a vehicle will stop for you before making eye contact with the driver.

In the meantime, the investigation is ongoing and Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Unit is looking to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage or witnessed the incident aside from the person captured in the photo still. If you have any information, please contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or RichmondSCU@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, quoting file number 2026-485.
