BC has surpassed 3,000 active cases of COVID-19, with 3,017 reported today.
There were also 299 new cases announced, including four that are epidemiologically linked, for a total of 15,800 in BC since the pandemic began. Nearly 7,000 people (6,888) are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases—an increase of more than 400 from yesterday’s number.
There are 92 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 22 of whom are in intensive care. Sadly, there were three new virus-related deaths for a total of 272.
Health officials announced one new healthcare facility outbreak, leaving 29 active outbreaks in the sector—27 in longterm care or assisted living facilities and two in acute care facilities.
There was also one new community outbreak announced at Capella Dance Academy in Chilliwack. There continue to be exposure events around the province.
“Our goal for the COVID-19 pandemic is to continue to minimize severe illness, death and social disruption in our communities. The more we learn about the virus, the better we are able to manage all three of these important objectives,” said health authorities in a statement. “As part of this, we all need to understand the risks in our local communities and adjust our activities if that risk increases. Today, much of the recent transmission is connected to social gatherings. That is why it is so important to keep our groups small.”
Health authorities added it’s especially important in the Fraser Health region, where people are asked to avoid all social gatherings in their home right now—even those that are within the restrictions of the provincial health officer order.
