Despite ongoing restrictions in BC, health officials announced 737 new cases of COVID-19 today, including six that are epidemiologically linked, for a total of 40,797 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 119 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 469 in the Fraser Health region, eight in the Island Health region, 99 in the Interior Health region, 41 in the Northern Health region and one in a person who normally lives outside Canada.

There are 9,589 active cases and 342 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 87 of whom are in intensive care. A further 12,008 people are under active public health monitoring.

There were 11 new virus-related deaths for a total of 598 in British Columbia. More than 150 of those deaths happened since Dec. 1, with another 178 happening in November. The last 41 days account for more than half of BC’s total lives lost to COVID-19.

Health officials also announced three new healthcare facilities and declared three healthcare outbreaks to be over. There are now 65 outbreaks in the healthcare sector, with 58 of those in longterm care or assisted living facilities and seven in acute care facilities, including the ongoing outbreak in three units at Richmond Hospital.

There was one new community outbreak announced at a Surrey private school. And Richmond’s Pioneers Pub (10111 No. 3 Rd.) received a COVID-19 exposure notice, with possible exposure dates listed as Nov. 28 to Dec. 5, during operating hours according to the BC Centre for Disease Control website.

"We want to ensure we are moving into this stage of our COVID-19 response in the best position possible, which means working together to make sure we don't fall back as we move forward with our immunization program,” said health officials in a statement.
