B.C. reports 498 new COVID-19 cases today

The number of new daily cases of COVID-19 continues to hover around 500, as it has for the past several weeks.
B.C. health officials reported 498 new cases today, bringing the total number of overall cases in the province since the pandemic began to 89,427.
Of the new cases, 128 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 291 in the Fraser Health region, 12 in the Island Health region, 31 in the Interior Health region and 36 in the Northern Health region.
There are 4,851 active cases and 281 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 83 of whom are in critical care. A further 9,472 people under active public health monitoring.
Four people have died due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. There have been no new healthcare facility outbreaks.
Due to a lab sequencing issue, health officials said no new variant of concern data is available today.
To date, 444,140 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 87,093 of which are second doses. Vaccine appointment bookings are open for people over age 82, adding one year each day this week for people 80 and older by the end of the week, along with Indigenous peoples over 65.
