B.C. health officials reported 519 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 341,532 cases.

In a B.C. government news release, health officials said that although 519 new cases are reported today, the total number of cases has only increased by 246 from yesterday. This has resulted in no new cases reported in Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health and a decrease in the overall total number of cases in these health authorities compared to yesterday. This is due to data reconciliation from switching between two reporting systems after a system-wide downtime over the past weekend.

Of the new cases, none are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), none in the Fraser Health region, 78 in the Island Health region, 287 in the Interior Health region, 145 in the Northern Health region, and nine new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 787 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 124 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,158,060 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,252,281 of those are second doses and 2,454,932 are third doses.

This means that 93.5 per cent of adults, 93.1 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.4 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 90.9 per cent of adults, 90.5 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 85.3 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 55.5 per cent of adults and 53.0 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were two new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,766. Both of the people who died lived in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported one new health-care facility outbreak and declared one over. Active outbreaks continue at 35 long-term care facilities, two assisted or independent living facilities, and two acute care facilities.

Due to a delayed refresh in BCCDC data, the update on cases and hospitalizations by vaccination status is unavailable today, according to the province’s news release.
