The city is developing a new council-approved Seniors Strategy 2022–2032 and is seeking input from adults aged 55 years and over, their families and those who work with the 55-plus population.

The public can provide feedback online at LetsTalkRichmond.ca/SeniorsStrategy2022 until April 24.

People can also attend drop-in sessions at city and community partner locations. Staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide additional information at the following times:

• Today (April 5) from 11 a.m. to noon: Seniors Strategy Drop-in Session, Hamilton Community Centre, 5140 Smith Dr.

• Tomorrow (April 6) from 10 a.m. to noon: Wellness Clinic, Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (Steveston Community Centre), 4251 Moncton St.

• Thursday (April 7) from 10 a.m. to noon: Wellness Clinic, City Centre Community Centre, 105–5900 Minoru Blvd.

• April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon: Wellness Clinic, East Richmond Community Hall (Cambie Community Centre), 12360 Cambie Rd.

• April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon: Wellness Clinic, Seniors Centre at Minoru Centre for Active Living, 7191 Granville Ave.

• April 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Seniors Strategy Drop-in Session, Richmond Multicultural Community Services, 340–7000 Minoru Blvd.

• April 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.: Seniors Strategy Drop-in Session, Richmond Public Library Brighouse Branch, 100-7700 Minoru Gate

Printed copies of the survey, in both English and Chinese, will be available at the in-person sessions. To increase accessibility for all seniors, one-on-one supported survey completion sessions will also be available in-person, virtually, or by phone, upon request. For assistance accessing or completing the survey, or other ways to contribute to this important engagement opportunity, email socialplanning@richmond.ca or call 604-247-4678.

By 2036, almost 40 per cent of Richmond’s population is expected to be 55 years or older. Developed in collaboration with community stakeholders, the seniors strategy sets a vision, five strategic directions and 29 recommended actions to be completed over the next 10 years.

The input received from the public engagement activities will be used to inform the final seniors strategy, which will be presented to city council in the fall.
